Why we built the kick ass knife
Dex wasn’t born in a lab. He wasn’t designed by a marketing team or imagined in a boardroom full of guys in suits.
Dex was born in frustration - out on the job site - when we looked around and asked a question nobody else seemed to care about:
Why the hell are mechanical insulators still using kitchen knives on job sites?
For decades, pros have carried the other knife which was a cheap, soft-steel ham boning knife designed for kitchens, not duct board. Blades rolled. Tips snapped. Edges dulled fast. It wasn’t built for the trade. But somehow, it became normal. The industry settled. No one stepped up.
So we did.
We asked the other Company to please make us what we needed:
- Full tang
- Jobsite grip
- Ruler on the handle
- Tether hole
- Durable edge
- Blade that doesn’t tarnish
- Low Rider Sheath
A real tool - not cutlery
They said NO
We said, f*ck it.
We’re not telling our crew to settle - EVER. We’re not putting up with soft steel and half tang cheap handle. If no one else would build the knife this trade deserves, we would.
That’s when Dex was born.
Dex was born in a pandemic. Just like grit.
We worked through dozens of prototypes - moved rivets, burned olive wood, adjusted steel hardness until it sharpened clean with a 120-grit rod right there on the job. We designed the low-ride holster so it clips where it matters. Every detail was argued, tested, and earned.
We refused compromises.
Not for a brand. Not for marketing.
Dex wasn’t made in a boardroom. Dex is all of us. The ones who show up early, stay late, and get it done right. The ones who pull this knife out a hundred times a day and expect it to work like it’s the first.
The pros who kick ass for a living.
Dex is the voice in your head that says, “Let’s go.” The one that doesn’t quit - even when you’re told it can’t be done. The one that makes shit happen.
He’s not polished.
He’s not pretty.
But he’s damn good at what he does.
